Prevention is Cure... mental fitness for all!

As a parent to 3 energetic children who are both primary and secondary, school age – Ree is experiencing firsthand the challenges faced amongst the children, teachers, support staff and communities when it comes to Mental Health & Wellbeing in Education right now.

She believes that ‘Prevention is Cure’ in the truest sense of the phrase, and that helping our Tamariki learn vital skills & strategies that they can take through life with them is essential. In addition to this, supporting our Teachers/Staff (Educators) in the Education system is so important so that they can continue to do the work that they are passionate about. Completing the Triangle of Care is a focus on Whanau and Communities – to also share with them knowledge, skills and strategies that they can use to improve their own health & wellbeing.

Ree is currently working as a Mental Health Coach in 2 Primary schools in her local Community – spending time with the Teaching/support staff each Term to focus on areas of their own Health and Wellbeing, using foundational coaching skills to facilitate conversation amongst the teams and sharing knowledge and advice on their agenda. Meeting them where they are at, sharing lifestyle medicine advice, coping skills, resilience strategies and more in order to help support them moving forwards…. Also helping them implement the MOE mental Health in Education (2023) curriculum.

Mental Fitness & Addictions is the focus of Ree’s private health coaching practice in Auckland, and she sees a number of children/teenagers who are struggling with their mental health and/or leaning on Addictive behaviours as a way of coping with the challenges of life. Helping support counsellors/therapists in schools, and education the communities on aspects of body image, vaping, alcohol, smoking, social media misuse etc is a major focus of the work Ree is able to bring to the Mental health in Education framework.

Lifestyle Medicine provides an interdisciplinary, whole-system approach to the prevention and reversal of chronic and lifestyle-related diseases through the modification of the behavioural, social and environmental drivers.” There are many 'pillars' of lifestyle medicine, and those that I would love to help you with include:

  • Nutrition

  • Sleep

  • Movement

  • Connection

  • Breathing

  • Gratitude

  • Mindfulness

Research shows that by taking small, repeatable steps and actions to strengthen each of these pillars, we can all live healthier, happier lives.
